Akkun is overjoyed at the fact that Aoki not only honestly confessed to Ida, but that Ida returned his feelings. Aoki however, is nervous. He’s not sure he really understood Ida’s response and is worried he didn’t get it right. Taking the initiative, Akkun takes Aoki to the gym where Ida is at volleyball practice. As a joke, he pushes Aoki into the gym, which causes Ida to worry, but he’s called into a huddle, so is unable to check on Aoki properly.

Akkun Teases Aoki

During the huddle, the captain of the volleyball team advised them that the assistant manager of the rival team they are playing on Saturday has a crush on one of their team members. Everyone believes that the only obvious choice is Ida. He’s just as shocked as anyone to find this out – except maybe Aoki.

Outside, Aoki assures Akkun that Ida isn’t a player. He’s not worried. He wouldn’t cheat on him. But Akkun reminds him that he’s not even sure he and Aoki are a couple yet. Now stuck in his head, Aoki decides what he should text Ida to make sure they’re a couple.

Aoki is confident Ida wouldn’t hurt him.

Hashimoto appears, briefly for a moment. Locking eyes with Akkun she rushes away. He asks Aoki for help, but Aoki is too focused on himself to see that his friend, whom he always comes to for advice, now needs his.

At home, Aoki, still struggling to decide how to ask Ida to confirm that they are in fact together, is surprised by his mother and accidentally sends a text that simply asks “Are we a couple?” Before he can delete it, Ida reads it. Later, he finally responds saying that they should talk on Monday.

Not one to sit and wait, Aoki borrows his mother’s opera glasses and rushes to the school Saturday morning to check out this assistant manager. He finds Kokomi Matsuuchi (Yuno Ohara), not only beautiful but diligent in her duties. She’s a formidable love rival.

Though he’s trying to be sneaky, Ida catches him. He asks Aoki what he’s come for, and Aoki, after trying to act tough, admits that he was confused by what Ida thought, and didn’t want to wait until Monday. Ida tells him that he’s looking forward to being a couple, though he’s not sure if he loves Aoki yet, but he’s never been in love before and has nothing to compare it to.

Matsuuchi and Ida confessing to one another they like someone else

Kokomi approaches Ida in the hallway, with a gift. Aoki is nervous to discover that the two are already on friendly terms as they’ve met previously through friends. Aoki congratulates Ida on winning her heart, then he rushes off to sulk.

Ida finds him after the match (which the home team lost) and assures him that he’s not interested in anyone else. Just him. Though it may be too early for them to be an actual couple, he hopes that they get to that point. He likes Aoki. A lot. Aoki likes him too. A lot.

Aoki and Ida: In like.

This episode, while not my favorite, is incredibly cute. Akoi’s anxiety towards Ida and the feelings he has (or may not have) for him is one I can full-heartedly relate to. I’ve been there. I also like how the simple neglect of Akkun and his feelings makes him feel all the more relatable. He’s human, he’s flawed, just like we all are.

10/10. No notes.

Will Akkun and Hashimoto ever make up? What’s next for Aoki and Ida? Find out in Episode 7!
