After school, Akkun, Ida, and Aoki are walking together. While Akkun is his normal cheerful self, Aoki is quiet, lost in his own head. When confronted he tries to play it cool and even laughs when Akkun starts to roughhouse with him. Ida also joins in.

The next day, however, Hashimoto advised that this can’t be how it ends. He must tell Ida the truth. The real truth. Instead, he decides to leave school, to think. Hashimoto rushes to Akkun for help, who, in his normal clueless sort of way spouts off and upsets Hashimoto so much she smacks him in the face.

Confused, Akkun rushes to find Aoki. Little by little he comes to realize that the misunderstanding may have started that way, but, but Aoki’s feelings for Ida became real. Confronting Hashimoto, she confirms his suspicions.

Ida comes to Aoki’s defense when their teacher, Mr. Taniguchi (Seiichi Tanabe) has assumptions about his sudden academic improvements. He reiterates how hard Aoki has worked, and that he’d never resort to something as low as cheating.

During volleyball practice, Ida is lost in his head. Swimming through his thoughts of Aoki, he really can’t focus on anything else.

Akkun reveals that he knows the truth about Aoki. He also apologizes for his part in Aoki’s current dilemma. Aoki forgives him and the two best friends grow even closer. Akkun also reveals that he and Hashimoto have reconciled.

Ida’s teammates confront him about not being focused. He reveals to them that someone confessed their feelings to him, but he doesn’t reveal who it is. He also reveals that he’s not entirely sure how he feels. He’s never really been in “like” before.

Akkun tries to convince Aoki to patch things up with Ida. Aoki doesn’t want to. He wants to give up. Akkun reveals that he will have the perfect chance to confess to Ida during the school camping trip. It’s a magical trip where “love can bloom” and the God of the mountain will surely help him.

As they head toward the mountains, Aoki prays to the Mountain God for help.
Episode 4 was one of my favorites, mainly because it shows what a fierce and formidable ally Hashimoto is. She stands up for Aoki, protecting him, even if it’s against his best friend. She’s a wonderful character.
10/10 No notes.
Will Aoki succeed? Will Ida even care? Now that Akkun knows the truth, will he be a help or continue to be a hindrance? Find out more in Episode 5.
