Cutie Pie was one of those series that I ended up falling in love with during the first episode. A major part of that was the music. NuNew has such an incredible voice and the songs were incredibly catchy. I was less of a fan of Cutie Pie 2 You. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t have the same magic the parent series did. So, when DOMUNDI announced Naughty Babe, I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to feel about it. I do enjoy Max and Nat as actors, and they’re an adorable couple, but did I really need more from the lives of Yi and Khondiao?

The answer: Yes.

A few things to know about the series before you start.

  • Set in 2026, gay marriage is legal in Thailand.
  • Kua is back from being an idol in Korean and he and Liam are leaving their best happy husbands life.
  • Yi and Khondiao have been engaged for a number foyers, but have still not gotten married.
  • This series is nothing like Cutie Pie.

Upset and feeling underappreciated, Khondiao has decided to leave Yi and move to Switzerland. He also believes that Yi is cheating on him, so he doesn’t feel like he’ll be missed by anyone but Kua.

Yi of course, is not NOT cheating on Khondiao, he loves him more than anything on the planet. He’s just incredibly busy.

The life Diao wants…

When he finds Khondiao is not only nowhere to be found, but he’s also left his precious puppy Nong behind, Yi goes into a panic. Jumping into a car, meant for Khondiao, he rushes to find out where his beloved has gone. Calling Kua, he demands to know what’s going on. But Kua has no interest in betraying the confidence of his friend. However, while they’re on the phone, Yi is in a terrible car accident.

Calling Khondiao, Kua and Lian rush to the hospital where they discover Yi is in a coma. Khondiao blames himself. Things get even more difficult when they discover Yi has amnesia and doesn’t believe Khondiao is Khondiao, because the Khondiao he knows is a seven-year-old kid. Khondiao doesn’t remember knowing Yi before he was an adult.

In the past Yi and Khondiao were friends. Yi had a pet tiger who almost ate Khondiao for lunch, but instead clawed off the face of someone who worked for the family. It’s the incident that turned Khondiao into the fragile little flower we’ve known him to be. It’s what Yi has been blaming himself for for years.

Here Kitty Kitty

When Yi’s memory returns, the only one he tells is Lian. He has two reasons for doing this 1.) He wants Khondiao to fall in love with him and again and 2.) The car’s breaks were tampered with. Khondiao was meant to be behind the wheel of the car, not Yi. Someone wants Khondiao dead and he needs to find out who.

When Yi is released from the hospital, Khondiao becomes his caregiver. The two start to fall in love again. But Khondiao is steadfast in his belief that Yi cheated on him and Kua shares the sentiment. So, they don’t make things easy on him.

Quick Take: Blood Thirsty Tigers, a murder plot, and a lack of musical numbers make this series something able to stand on its own two feet. It’s almost like the writers took the characters of Cutie Pie and dropped them into a parallel universe. They’re familiar but new. I love seeing the friendship between Yi and Lian enter a more comical phase while Kua and Khondiao’s is more serious. Also, I love how they use Yi’s amnesia against him as a form of torment, not realizing he remembers everything. It’s hysterical.

I can’t wait to see where this series goes.

10/10.

More Naughty Babe soon so…
