To attend a concert by one of the acts under Johnny & Associates is to experience magic. While every one of their acts is talented, hardworking, and incredibly deserving of the success they have found, there’s something special about Travis Japan.

They’re all of the things that make a Johnny’s idol, but they’re also so much more – which is exactly what they were created to be. When you meet them, you see them for who they are: seven young guys who are handsome, sweet, and having the time of their lives. When you watch them perform, you see them or what they are: insanely talented performers who’s one goal is to brighten the lives of their fans – even if it’s just just for a few short hours.

Earlier this year the group performed a series of sold-out shows across Japan. Apply titled The Show, the experience is a four act production that showcases the very best of what Johnny & Associates has to offer.

The show starts with a holographic disco ball and the group, dressed in faux fur, descending from the ceiling in a stretch limo performing “The Show” I get why these creative directors love suspending these groups in the air. It gives off a “Gods descending to earth to entertain us mere mortals” kind of vibe, but it sends my anxiety into overdrive.

At least it was a happy coronary

Safely on the ground, the group removes the coats to reveal fitted tuxedos – playing up the Red Carpet / Hollywood vibe to perform “Party Up Like Crazy” and their debut track “JUST DANCE!” While the crowd is excited it’s important to note the expression on the guys’ faces. They’re absolutely glowing in their element.

They were made for this.

As the introduction ends, the lights go down and the boys are reintroduced in a Broadway-esque number that slips right into the fan-favorite “My Dreamy Hollywood”.

Highlights from the concert include the new song “Swing My Way” a jazzy Broadway-style track that adds to the group’s theatricality.

“Unique Tiger” which is the group’s introductory song. I just love these. They’re fun and Travis Japan did it while riding around on tiger statues. Also their tiger personas are adorable.

Chaka: Leader Tiger
Shime: Sweet Tiger
Umi: Pet Tiger
Genta: Sexy Tiger
Shizu: Comedy Tiger
Machu: Pure Tiger
Noel: Brain Tiger

As silly as these songs are, they’re also incredibly catchy.

“VOLCANO” This was one of my first introductions to the band and it’s just a mesmerizing thing to see live.

New song: “Turn Up the Vibe” a late 80s / early 90s inspired pop track was featured as part of the group’s “street music” section.

“World of Dance” I just love watching these guys move and they’re doing so with boundless energy and bright smiles.

Encore performances of “JUST DANCE!” in their debut look and “BIG BANG BOY” which is one of my personal favorite tracks.

Boys on Stage

I want to make a special note of Noel playing the piano. I love a man who can tickle the keys and he just looks so damn good while he does it.

Also, I love you.

When The Show comes to an end, and the group takes their final bow, they thank the fans for joining them on their journey. Knowing the group as well as I do, I know the weight behind their words. They don’t say things just because they think it’s what the fans want to hear. They mean it. Then, they get back into the limo and are lifted back into the sky, returning to the heavens, until it’s time for them to return and brighten our lives once again.

There will be more Travis Japan soon so… until next time tigers…

Stay Tuned!
