I love how versatile this group is.

One minute they’re cute and cuddle in colorful pastels the next their slick and sexy in black blazers. In the group’s newest music video “Missing” they’re men on a mission to uncover a mystery in an old hotel.

The sound of the song and the feel and look of the video were very much inspired by the spirits of film noirs of the 1940s. This is the perfect fit since “Missing” is also one of the theme songs to Knockin’ on Locked Door, a mystery drama starring Naniwa Danshi’s own Daigo Nishihata along with fellow Johnny’s artist Hokuto Matsumura of SixTONES! Airing Saturdays at 11pm on TV Asahi, the comedy stars the two idols as friendly rivals who also run their own detective agency together.

This is a very subdued and simple video for the group. It’s one of the rare ones without a dance number, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting. Fitting with the theme of the series, and the sound of the song, the music video has an air of mystery that leaves the viewer with questions. What were they looking for in that hotel?!?

Again, it’s different, but I like it.

Also, not that I’m keeping score, but out of the five singles this group (whom I love) have released so far, four of them have been featured as theme songs to dramas starring one of the members, most of which can be viewed internationally.

A physical CD of “Make Up Day / Missing” will be released on September 13, 2023. Available wherever Japanese CDs are sold, the disc comes in 3 different versions containing additional songs and behind-the-scenes video content! I always use CD Japan. They’re fast, reliable, and best of all affordable! You can pre-order “Make Up Day / Missing”  here.

More Naniwa Danshi soon so…

Stay Tuned!
