The Japanese apocalyptic BL drama The End of the World, With You (僕らのミクロな終末) was one of those series that really surprised me. Over the two years that I’ve been on my Boys Love journey, I’ve come to know the Japanese series to be cute, cuddly, and innocent. Series like My Love Mix-Up and Cherry Magic were precious, but Precious… they weren’t hot.

Then Comes The End of the World, With You (also called Our Micro End), and not only do they show crusty Kleenexes and sex, but pretty graphic sex. It’s rough, it’s loud, and it’s very, very sweaty – which makes sense after I found out it was produced by the same team who did The Pornographer (which I haven’t seen yet).

With only 10 days left until the end of the world, Masumi (Toshiki Seto) doesn’t know what to do with himself. But he knows he wants nothing to do with his ex-boyfriend Ritsu (Keisuke Nakata). However, fate intervenes, and the two adorably clumsy men have no choice but to deal with one another.

Ritsu (Keisuke Nakata) and Masumi (Toshiki Seto)

There’s a foiled suicide pact, a boy named Yuma (Tomimoto Sousyo)who appears to be magic and an idol named Meguru (Idegami Baku) who isn’t exactly what she appears to be. It was fascinating and well worth the watch – and since I enjoyed it so much, I decided to buy the Blu-Ray set.

Released by TCEntertainment, the 3-disc box set is quite lovely. Well made, it’s sturdy, with high-quality artwork that shows various scenes and the four main characters. The disc case is simple, showing three images from the beach on the front and a cute photo of Ritrsu and Masumi on the back. Running at 194 minutes, the single-sided/dual-layered includes all 8 episodes on discs 1 and 2 with an aspect ratio of 16:9LB. Disc 3 includes special features such as a Making ofBehind The Scenes, and more. The one drawback to the set is that it does not include English subtitles (however those are easily obtained).

The set also includes a 52-page photo book with some pretty steamy images of Ritrsu and Masumi.

You can purchase a copy for yourself through CDJapan.
